If you are concerned that you or a family member is suffering from a perinatal mood disorder, please contact your family doctor or psychiatrist and describe the impact your symptoms are having on your day-to-day life.

Psychotherapy and Counseling:
Psychotherapy and counseling is either used along with medication or in women experiencing mild depression or anxiety, it can be the only form of treatment. Group therapy can be particularly effective in treating perinatal anxiety & mood disorders. The Jackson Hole Perinatal Advocacy Project offers a
FREE weekly support group. Please contact us for more information about the support group. This support group is funded in part by a grant from the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole.

Antidepressant Medications:

Antidepressants improve sleep, appetite, and energy level; ideally medication should be used in conjunction with ‘talk therapy’ and support. These medications can be prescribed by a physician or psychiatrist, usually for those experiencing moderate to severe depression. For information regarding the use of medication while pregnant or breastfeeding, please visit www.motherisk.org.

Alternative Therapies:
Alternative treatments include acupuncture, homeopathy, light therapy and herbal remedies. Women should check with their treating physician when considering alternative treatments.
