Started in May 2010, the Jackson Hole Perinatal
Advocacy Project provides a spectrum of outreach, education, and support for
medical providers, women and their families in regards to pregnancy and
postpartum mental health issues. Activities include community
presentations, a referral line and a free weekly support group for
expecting and new parents experiencing perinatal anxiety and mood
disorders.
Perinatal means the period
"all around" birth, the period of time all throughout pregnancy as
well as the baby's first year.
An estimated one in eight women suffer from a
perinatal mood disorder, and 80% go undiagnosed and untreated.
